5.-6. století – příchod Dánů z jižního Švédska

9. –10. století – konec vikingské doby, vznik Dánského státu, začátek christianizace Skandinávie

Události v 11. až 15. století

1167 – za vlády Valdemara Velikého byla založena Kodaň

1213 – zemřela dánská královna Dagmar, dcera Přemysla Otakara II.

1397 – ustanovení kalmarské unie, kterou sjednotila královna Margaret (Dánsko, Švédsko a Norsko)

1478 – v Kodani založena univerzita králem Christianem I.

Dánsko v 16. a 17. století

1523 – Švédsko opustilo kalmarskou unii

1534 –1536 – občanská válka vyprovokovaná sesazením krále Kristiána II. kvůli vystoupení Švédska z unie. Později znovu dosazen. Posílení katolictví v zemi

1576–97 – astronom Tycho de Brahe působil na královském dvoře jako astronom za vlády Frederika V. Po jeho smrti odchází do Prahy na dvůr Rudolfa II.

1625–1629 – Dánsko zapojeno do třicetileté války, tzv. války Dánské

1660 – nastolení dědičné absolutistické monarchie

Dánské království v 18. a 19. století

1702 – uvolnění robotních povinností dánských rolníků

1728 – velký požár v Kodani, zničena velká část historického jádra

1801 – 1807 – Dánsko je na straně Francie a spolu s ní se podílí na kontinentální blokádě. V bitvě Angličané zničili dánskou námořní flotilu a vypálili Kodaň.

1813 – Dánsko bankrotuje

1849 – vznik ústavy, která vyměnila absolutistický monarchismus za konstituční monarchii.

Dějiny od 20. století až podnes

1914–1918 – 1. světová válka, Dánsko zůstává neutrální zemí

1915 – zavedení všeobecného hlasovacího práva a zrovnoprávnění žen

1918 – Island vstoupil do personální unie s Dánskem

1940–1945 – Dánsko okupováno Německem ve 2. světové válce

1944 – Island se definitivně odtrhuje od Dánska

1948 – Faerské ostrovy získaly autonomii

1949 – Dánsko zakládající člen NATO

1972 – po Frederiku IX. nastupuje na trůn současná královna Margareta II.

1989 – legalizace homosexuálních svazků

1997 – otevření železničního spojení přes Store Baelt (průliv mezi ostrovy Sjaeland a Fyn). Královna slaví 25 let vlády.

1998 – otevření mostu pro automobilovou dopravu přes Store Baelt

2000 – otevření tunelu a mostu mezi Kodaní a Malmo (Švédsko). Při koncertě Pearl Jam na hudebním festivalu v Roskilde bylo několik účastníků ušlapáno davem k smrti, od té doby kapela Pearl Jam nekoncertovala.
